Film Type: Documentary Director: Parthajit Baruah Released Year: 2020
This documentary, "Breaking the Silence," is about the first
organised women's musical group in Assam. The group consisted of five women—Anjali Mahanta,
Nazma Ahmed, Sewali Lekharu, Kabita Nath, and Arati Mahanta—who, fighting against the social
taboo, did stage performances in the 1980s. They serve as a symbol of women's voice in patriarchal
society. The five women belonging to different castes and religions redefined women's position in
society.
